Answers from experts.Choosing The Correct Shelf Rack Length
How do I choose the correct length?
It is best to measure the length of your drawer runner, not just the drawer box itself. These runners come in 50mm increments (300mm to 600mm). If your current runner is between sizes (e.g., 480mm), we generally recommend sizing down to the nearest available size (450mm) to ensure the drawer closes fully without hitting the back of the cabinet.
Tools Required For Shelf Rack Installation
Do I need special screws or tools?
You will need countersunk screws (usually 3.5mm or 4mm gauge) that sit flush inside the runner holes so they don't obstruct the sliding mechanism. These are not always included in the pack to allow for different cabinet thicknesses, so we recommend checking your existing screws or picking up a standard pack of chipboard screws.
Soft Close Drawer Durability
Will the soft-close mechanism wear out over time?
Hettich is a premium German-engineered brand known for "fit and forget" reliability. The Silent System is integrated directly into the runner, protecting it from dust and damage. Unlike cheaper aftermarket soft-close adapters that can snap or lose pressure, this system is built to last the lifespan of the kitchen.
Why New Drawers Feel Harder To Open
Why do the drawers feel slightly harder to open than my old ones?
This is a normal characteristic of high-quality soft-close runners. When you pull the drawer open, you are "priming" the soft-close spring mechanism for the next close. This creates a small amount of initial resistance. Most users get used to this within a few days and come to associate that slight resistance with the feeling of quality and safety.
Maintaining Soft Close Drawer Systems
How do I maintain them? Do they need greasing?
The ball bearings are permanently lubricated and sealed to minimize maintenance. You should avoid adding extra grease or WD-40, as this can actually attract dust and grit, which makes the runner grind. The best maintenance is simply wiping the runners with a clean, dry cloth if you notice any dust build-up during your regular kitchen clean.
