Bin Compatibility With 450mm And 600mm Cabinets
I have a 450mm (or 600mm) cabinet. Will this bin fit exactly?
The WT Bin Drawer is engineered for standard Australian modular cabinet widths. If you buy the "450mm" model, it is designed to fit a carcass that is 450mm wide on the outside (with standard 16mm walls). It will not fit a custom 430mm or 460mm internal space without significant modification. Measure your cabinet's external width to match the model size exactly.
It is relatively straightforward. The unit features side-mounted runners that screw into the internal walls of your cabinet. The trickiest part is usually aligning the door panel so it sits level with your adjacent drawers. The mounting brackets offer 3-way adjustment (up/down, left/right, tilt), allowing you to fine-tune the door position after installation for perfect gaps.
The WT system uses high-quality ball-bearing soft-close runners, typically rated for 35kg-40kg dynamic load. This is more than sufficient for a full load of wine bottles or heavy food scraps. The soft-close mechanism ensures that even with this heavy weight, the bin won't slam shut and damage your cabinetry; it will dampen the momentum and close gently.
Standard configurations (usually 2 x 35L or similar) are the "sweet spot" for family use. While 70L total might sound less than a huge outdoor bin, in a kitchen context, it is ideal. It forces you to empty the general waste frequently enough to prevent bad smells, while the recycling bin is large enough to hold a day or two's worth of packaging.
The integrated metal lid sits flush atop the buckets when the unit is closed. While it isn't a hermetic air-tight seal (like Tupperware), it effectively baffles airflow, keeping normal kitchen odours contained within the carcass. We always recommend wrapping smelly proteins (meat/fish) before binning them, regardless of the bin system.
The individual buckets lift entirely out of the sliding frame. If a bin liner splits, you can simply take the bucket to your laundry sink or outside to the garden hose for a thorough wash. The smooth internal walls mean sticky liquids wash away easily without getting trapped in sharp corners.
