Measuring Cabinet Handle Hole Centres
How do I measure my existing holes to see if this fits?
The most critical measurement for any handle replacement is the "Centre-to-Centre" (C-C) distance. This is the exact distance between the two screw holes on your cabinet door, not the total length of the handle. You must measure from the centre of one hole to the centre of the other (e.g., 96mm, 128mm, 160mm). If your current holes are even 2mm different from the standard size of this handle, it will not fit without patching and re-drilling.
The handle typically comes with standard M4 screws (usually 22mm or 25mm long), which suit standard 16mm-18mm cabinet doors. If you are installing these on a drawer that has a separate front panel attached to a drawer box (making the total thickness 30mm+), you will likely need to purchase longer M4 "snap-off" screws separately from a hardware store to reach through both layers.
High-quality handles use an electroplated or anodized finish designed to resist the natural oils and acidity of human skin. However, "wear spots" can develop over many years if the handle is constantly grabbed in the exact same spot with dirty or greasy hands. Regular cleaning helps preserve the protective coating and keeps the finish consistent.
For heavy drawers (like pot drawers or pantries), a handle like the H1715 is mechanically superior to a knob. It allows you to use your whole hand (and the strength of your arm) to pull the weight, rather than just your fingertips. If you have arthritis or limited grip strength, a D-shaped handle is significantly more ergonomic and comfortable than a small knob.
"Stainless Steel" and "Brushed Nickel" are similar but not identical. Brushed Nickel (often the finish of these handles) has a slightly warmer, yellowish undertone, whereas Stainless Steel appliances have a cooler, blue/grey tone. They usually coordinate well enough not to clash, but if you are a perfectionist about matching metals, be aware of the subtle tonal difference.
Never use abrasive scourers or strong chemical cleaners (like bleach or citrus sprays) on cabinet hardware. These can strip the clear lacquer and cause the metal to tarnish or pit. The only maintenance required is a wipe with a damp microfibre cloth and warm water, followed by a dry cloth to remove water spots.
