Does The Bin Kit Include The Drawer
Does this kit include the actual drawer, or just the bins?
This is a complete "drawer-based" bin system. It includes the premium Hettich Atira drawer components (runners, metal sides, back, and base) as well as the bin buckets and the frame to hold them. You don't need to buy a separate drawer box. The only thing you need to provide is the external cabinet front (the timber or coloured panel that matches your kitchen) to screw onto the front.
It utilizes Hettich's advanced mechanical "Push to Open" runners. There is no wiring or electricity required. You simply nudge the drawer front with your knee or hip, and the spring-loaded mechanism ejects the drawer open. It's a purely mechanical solution, making it reliable and easy to install without an electrician.
Hettich Quadro runners are legendary for their load-bearing capacity (often rated to 30kg or more). They are designed to handle the dynamic force of a fully loaded bin being ejected. Provided you don't overload it with bricks, the mechanism is tested for tens of thousands of cycles and will likely outlast the kitchen itself.
The "messy hands" factor. When you are chopping chicken or peeling veggies, your hands are wet and dirty. With this system, you don't have to touch a handle or balance on one foot to find a pedal. A simple nudge with your knee opens the bin, allowing you to drop the waste in without spreading bacteria to your cabinet hardware.
The mechanism requires a deliberate "nudge" to trigger. It has a small amount of resistance so that simply brushing past it won't fire the drawer open. However, if you have a habit of leaning your hips against the bench while cooking right in front of the bin, you might trigger it occasionally. It's a small trade-off for the hands-free convenience.
The biggest enemy of under-sink runners is grime and debris falling into the tracks. To keep the "Push" action crisp, occasionally vacuum the runners and wipe them with a dry cloth. Do not use grease or oil sprays (like WD-40) on the runners, as this attracts dust and can gum up the nylon rollers inside.
