Required Drawer Size For Bin Systems
What size drawer do I need for this to fit?
This unit is designed to replace a standard kitchen or laundry drawer. It typically requires an internal cabinet width between 360mm and 520mm (ideal for a 400mm-600mm external cabinet width). Crucially, you need a minimum internal depth of 500mm to allow the board to fold away completely. The drawer front you attach must be at least 120mm high to cover the mechanism when closed.
How Pull Out Bin Systems Mount
How does it actually mount?
The unit does not use standard drawer runners. Instead, the mechanism screws directly into the sides or onto a shelf within your cabinet carcass. The drawer front is then attached to the special brackets on the front of the ironing board frame. When you pull the handle, the board slides out and rises up to bench height automatically.
Pull Out Ironing Board Stability
Is it stable enough to really lean on?
This is the most common concern with fold-out boards. The Kia Ora features a telescopic support leg that extends automatically as the board is pulled out. This leg rests against the cabinet face or structure to take the weight. While it is sturdy enough for normal ironing pressure, you cannot sit on it or apply heavy downward force like you might on a heavy-duty freestanding station.
Ironing Board Size For Business Shirts
Is the board big enough for business shirts?
The surface area is compact-typically around 950mm long x 300mm wide. This is significantly shorter than a standard 120cm floor-standing board. It is perfect for touch-ups, t-shirts, and business shirts, but ironing king-size bed sheets or long trousers will require more shuffling and adjustment than on a full-size board.
Steam Protection For Benchtops
Will the steam damage my benchtop?
When the board is extended, it sits slightly in front of the benchtop, not directly over it. However, steam from a powerful iron can rise and condense on the underside of overhanging stone or laminate benchtops. If you plan to do hours of steam ironing, we recommend wiping down the underside of your bench afterwards to prevent moisture swelling in the joinery.
Preventing Ironing Board Mechanism Stiffness
Does the mechanism get stiff?
The spring-loaded rising mechanism relies on smooth metal-on-metal movement. Over time, lint and dust from clothes can settle in the greased tracks. We recommend vacuuming the runners and applying a small amount of silicone spray (not oil, which attracts dust) once a year to keep the "pop-up" action smooth and effortless.
