Answers from experts.

Rear Air Gap Requirements For Fridges

I want to install this tight inside a cabinet. Does it need a rear air gap?

This model is specifically engineered as a front-venting unit. It breathes entirely through the front bottom grille, taking cool air in and expelling warm air out the same way. This means you can install it back-to-wall without overheating. We do recommend leaving a small clearance (about 10mm) on the sides just to ensure the door opens freely and you can slide the unit out for cleaning.

Turning Heated Glass Features On

How do I turn the heated glass on?

There is a dedicated red switch located inside the fridge (usually near the thermostat or light switch). You don't need to run the heated glass 24/7. It is designed to be used only during periods of high humidity (like a rainy summer week) or if you see condensation forming. In dry weather or air-conditioned rooms, keep it off to save energy.

Durability Of Black Appliance Finishes

Is the black finish durable?

The black finish is a powder-coated steel, which is generally tougher and more resistant to fingerprints than stainless steel. However, it can still scratch if hit with sharp objects (like keys or metal eskies). Clean it with a soft microfibre cloth and warm soapy water; avoid abrasive scourers or harsh chemical sprays which can dull the matte sheen over time.

Benefits Of Heated Glass Fridges

Why should I pay extra for 'Heated Glass'?

If you have timber floors, laminate, or carpet, condensation is a serious risk. On humid days, standard glass doors "sweat," causing water to pool at the base of the fridge. This can warp floorboards and cause mould. The heated glass feature warms the outer pane just enough to stop moisture from settling, effectively insurance for your expensive flooring.

Quiet Fridges For Home Offices

Is it quiet enough for a home office or cinema?

This is one of the quietest compressors in the Schmick range, operating at approximately 39-41dB. For context, a quiet conversation is about 50dB. While you will hear a low hum when it kicks in to cool down warm drinks, it is unobtrusive and won't distract you during a movie or a Zoom call.

Replacing Fridge LED Lights After Warranty

What if the LED lights die after the warranty?

The internal lighting strips are replaceable parts, not permanent fixtures. Because Schmick is a well-supported Australian brand, you can purchase replacement LED strips (and drivers) easily if they eventually fail. You won't be left with a dark fridge or forced to buy a new unit just because a light bulb blew.
